About Us
Meet Carol Hunter
Carol Hunter’s love for nature and plants spans her lifetime. Her understanding of the healing power of nature led her to work in horticulture as therapy. An unknown author wrote, “You can bury a lot of troubles digging in the dirt.” Another stated, “The greatest gift of the garden is the restoration of the five senses.” Both writers aptly penned some of the holistic benefits found in horticulture therapy (HT).
HT is a valuable intervention strategy that uses plants, gardening, and plant-related activities as the basis for improving mental, physical, cognitive and emotional health. Hunter obtained her certification in Horticultural Therapy from the Horticultural Therapy Institute in 2018. Since that time, she’s introduced horticulture therapy to schools, churches, corporate and civic organizations, and individuals to facilitate total well-being.

Horticultural Therapy is...

Horticultural Therapy (HT) is the intentional use of plants and gardening activities by a trained therapist to support health and well-being. Rooted in ancient traditions and supported by modern science, this therapeutic practice helps individuals enhance their physical, emotional, cognitive, and social well-being through hands-on connection with nature.

In today’s fast-paced world—where many spend most of their time indoors or in front of screens—Horticultural Therapy offers a restorative experience. It gently reconnects people with the rhythms of the natural world, encouraging mindfulness, movement, and growth.
Whether tending to a plant, sowing seeds, or simply engaging in a sensory garden experience, participants in HT sessions often experience reduced stress, improved mood, increased focus, and a renewed sense of purpose. The work is adaptable and meaningful for people of all ages and abilities, including those recovering from illness or injury, managing stress, anxiety, and mental health challenges, or seeking greater social connection.

-
Overcoming Trauma: Horticultural therapy can empower individuals to move beyond shame and trauma, helping them reclaim their lives and find their rightful place in the world.
-
Mindfulness and Presence: The practice naturally encourages mindfulness, which involves paying attention to the present moment without judgment. This sensory immersion can quiet mental chatter and bring a sense of calm and centeredness.
